# How to react when receiving an abuse message

> Received an abuse notification from EDIS Global? Review the report, investigate the issue, stop prohibited activity, and reply to the notice.

If EDIS Global contacts you about suspected abuse involving your service, review the notification and respond promptly. Our [Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)](/getting-started/acceptable-use-policy) defines prohibited activities and their consequences.

To report suspected abuse to EDIS Global, see [Reporting abuse](/reporting-abuse).

## What to do

1. **Review the notification.** Identify the affected service and reported activity. Follow the instructions and any deadline in the message.
2. **Investigate and take action.** Stop prohibited activity, address its cause and secure any compromised systems or accounts.
3. **Reply in the same email conversation.** Confirm when the issue is resolved. For spam complaints, include a brief description of the remediation taken, as required by our [Port 25 policy](/faq/port-25-smtp-rate-limit-policy).
4. **Tell us if you disagree.** If you believe the report is incorrect, explain why and include relevant evidence so our team can review it.

Keep your account contact details current and monitor the address used for abuse notifications.

## Immediate protective action

We may take action before you reply to protect affected parties and our infrastructure. Restrictions, suspension or account termination depend on the incident and the AUP. A response deadline does not guarantee that a service will remain online.

## VPN providers and resellers

You remain responsible for activity originating from your customers. Review the additional requirements in our [reseller responsibilities](/reselling-and-discounts#reseller-responsibilities) and [commercial VPN guide](/commercial-vpn-hosting#abuse-handling).
